現在の研究内容
ハダニ類の中には、共同で巣を作って生活する社会性のハダニ（スゴモリハダニ属）がいます。アリやハチ類ほど高度に発達した社会性ではないものの、巣に侵入してくる天敵から巣を守るために共同で防衛したり、巣内が汚れないようにトイレをつくる（排泄場所の特化）といった協調的な集団行動がみられます。スゴモリハダニ属ではこうした社会性やその他生態に、種間および種内で変異があり、その多様性の分化とそれが維持されているメカニズムの解明をめざして、動物行動学、生態学、生物地理学（分布）、系統進化学的アプローチにより研究に取り組んでいます。本研究は、生物多様性における環境や生物間相互作用の重要性の理解に貢献できると考えています。
